Scanned filings come in, and a redacted PDF comes out
A PDF with no selectable text is no longer refused: the app reads the pages itself, on this computer, without asking you to run another program first. Only the pages that have no text are read, a couple of seconds each, with the pages counted and a Cancel. Scans that arrive as images come in too — .jpg, .png, .tif — becoming a one-page PDF the moment they arrive.
- New
What the system missed, you cover by hand
On a PDF page you can draw a rectangle over a signature, stamp or logo: its contents are removed from the file, not covered over. Drawing reads no text and assigns no PII type. To also mark a name, explicitly choose Read text to mark and check the result.
- New
Names come back from a file too, not only from pasted text
Re-identifica now has Apri un documento…: open the anonymised PDF you saved and the app reads the placeholders out of it, so you know what was under the black rectangles. The document contains no table and no key — that stays in the case, on this computer — and is not touched by a single byte.
- Improved
First you choose where to save, then the app works
The PDF anonymisation no longer starts while you are still looking at the format menu: it starts after you have chosen where to save, and closing that dialog costs no waiting. While it runs there are the bar, the pages counted, the time left and Cancel. On a scan the summary tells you beforehand how long it may take.
- New
A PDF is reviewed on the page, and leaves actually redacted
The original page appears next to the text, with a box on every value found. On export the values are not covered with a black rectangle but removed from the file, text included: a PDF blacked out with a rectangle can be reopened and copied.
- New
The interface speaks four languages
Italian, English, Slovene and German, menu bar and native dialogs included. The language follows the machine, and Impostazioni can pin it by hand without a restart.
- New
The app updates itself
When a new version comes out, Omissia notices and downloads it in the background; on the next restart it is already installed. Impostazioni, under Support, says where it is up to, offers a button to check right now, and a switch to turn the automatic part off. The check downloads a file that is the same for everyone: it sends no address of yours, no identifier for this computer, and nothing from your matters.
- New
The guide and the release notes are inside the app
Every feature has a page that says how it is used, with the procedure step by step and what it costs to get wrong. It opens from Help in the menu bar, or from the question mark on the start screen. There is nothing to download: the guide ships inside the app like everything else.
- New
The Omissia button inside Word, LibreOffice and Pages
You turn it on in Impostazioni, tab Integrazioni, and it appears inside the program you are already writing in: if you have selected text it works on that, otherwise on the whole document. The review opens here as always, and at the end the document goes back there, as a copy next to the original or, if you ask, in its place. Before delivering it Omissia resolves the revisions, empties the comments and blanks the properties with a name in them, because accepting a revision does not remove the deleted text from the file. The document does not leave this computer.
- New
Anonymising what you copied, without opening the window
You select the text where you are, copy it, and from the Omissia icon in the bar choose Anonimizza gli appunti: the same text comes back to the clipboard with placeholders in place of the names. It works from any program. This path has no review, so the notification says how many replacements were made and how many values stayed readable; if nothing was found, the clipboard is not touched and it tells you. Right afterwards, Ripristina i nomi negli appunti puts the real values back into the model’s answer.
- New
Omissia stays in the bar even with the window closed
Closing the window does not close the app: it stays with its icon in the menu bar on the Mac and in the notification area on Windows and Linux, and that is where the clipboard, the settings and the real quit come from. It is also what makes the button inside the editor work, since it needs an app already running. It can be turned off in Impostazioni, and the same tab holds the start with the computer.
- Improved
Other fixes and improvements
A case can take a whole folder; the types are decided once per matter; the dictionary leaves the machine sealed; the text is read back before export; one screen per document. Outside of here the app talks to two addresses only, updates and the sign-in, and to no others. Plus the fixes not worth a paragraph.
1.3.0
- Improved
The app is signed, and the system no longer treats it as unknown
The macOS builds are signed and notarised by Apple, and the app is built for macOS, Windows and Linux from the same pipeline. The unidentified developer warning no longer appears on first launch.
- Fixed
The installer no longer carries four gigabytes nobody needs
The model runs on the CPU, and the package was shipping the graphics card libraries anyway. Removed: same behaviour, a much smaller download.
1.2.0
- New
A case can refuse to keep the way back
Without a dictionary: no table is built and none is saved, not even by this app. The text can no longer be re-identified, and the dialog says the other half too, that the court, the dates and the roles left in the text still lead back to the person.
- New
The review says what masking cannot do
Where only the number of replaced values appeared, there is now the sentence that number does not say: replacing the names does not make a filing anonymous.
- Improved
One case at a time
The tab bar is gone: the window holds one case, and the case list is one click away. Two matters open side by side are two matters that get mixed up.
- Improved
The app says there is a model, and where it runs
Anyone who hears artificial intelligence assumes a service on the network, which is the exact opposite of what happens here. Impostazioni now names the model and says in the same breath that it runs on the machine.
1.1.0
- Improved
The app opens on what it is for
The first screen is no longer an empty table but the three ways in: open a document, paste some text, pick up a case.
1.0.1
- Fixed
A way out of the panel, and a way back to the cases
The detail panel could be opened and not closed, and the case list had no way back. Both now have their button.
1.0.0
- New
The first version
Open a filing or paste some text, the app finds the identifiers, you decide value by value, and what leaves can be sent to a model. No network: the analysis happens on your machine and the cases stay encrypted on disk.
- New
The review is not optional
Nothing is replaced without you seeing it. Every value found goes through the review screen, and values can be added by hand by selecting the text.
On an older version?
On macOS and Windows the program updates itself. On Linux the update goes through the Download page, and the reason is written there.
