A source is protected until the document leaves the room.
Three files that should not pass through a chat
- The papers a source handed you
- Professional secrecy covers the source’s name and anything that could lead to identifying them. In an internal document those things are everywhere: who was copied in, which office, which staff number, which shift. Pasting it whole does not reveal a name, it reveals the set of things that leads to one.
- An employee’s disclosure
- Whistleblower law protects not only the identity of the person reporting, but every element from which it can be worked out, even indirectly. A company document with three specific details is one of those elements, and in a newsroom of twenty it becomes one before it ever reaches a supplier.
- The PDF that arrived by email
- A file carries more than what is on screen: the author in the metadata, the text layer under a scan, the revisions in a .docx, the name of the machine it was saved from. Blacking out a name on the page does not take it out of the file, and the file is what gets uploaded.
Names, contact details, staff numbers, bank details: one at a time
Omissia reads the document, proposes what it found and waits for you to confirm. Tax codes and VAT numbers are checked against their own check character; names, addresses and contact details are proposed by a model and confirmed by you, because on a confidential document the value that matters is the one you decide to remove.
And it is not only the AI: the same export serves when the document goes to the colleague checking it, to the title’s lawyer before publication, or to the desk that has to judge whether the story stands up without needing to know who gave it to you.

What a journalist asks first
Whoever protects a source answers for that document more than anyone else. A tool does not move that responsibility, and none of these answers can be improvised.
- Why is blacking out the names before uploading not enough?
- Because secrecy does not cover the name, it covers identifiability. Article 200 of the Italian code of criminal procedure speaks of the source’s name and of anything that could lead to identifying them, and Legislative Decree 24/2023 says the same of a whistleblower, “even indirectly”. A role, a date and an office are enough when only five people could have had that document. A black rectangle over a name leaves the other five lines that lead there anyway.
- Does the document pass through a server of yours?
- No. The analysis and the model run on your computer, and there is no address of ours that receives a document, a file name or a detected value. The network is for signing in, for the licence and for updates. If your work depends on a file not leaving the room, this is the line that matters.
- Can I still use ChatGPT or Claude on the text?
- Yes, and that is the point. Omissia does not take the model away from you, it takes the names away before the model sees them: what you paste is text with placeholders, and you put the answer back onto the real values on your own computer. The map between placeholder and name is encrypted with the system keychain and never leaves your disk.
- And after publication?
- Delete the case and the map between placeholders and values goes with it: from that moment the anonymised text cannot be put back together, not even by you. It is the same property that matters when somebody asks the newsroom to hand over what it holds, and it is worth deciding in advance whether you want it.
Written for reporting work
The pieces that answer the questions journalists arrive here with.
Four hundred pages, one night, and no document leaves the room
What a model genuinely does well on an anonymised file, what it still makes up, and where human checking cannot be delegated.
Essentiality is a rule you already have, applied from the wrong end
Italy’s rules of conduct have long required publishing only indispensable data. The same question, asked before uploading a file, has a shorter answer.
A whistleblower is protected from all but the document they gave you
Italian Decree 24/2023 protects a whistleblower’s identity and everything it can be inferred from, even indirectly. A company document is made of that.
The wall around a source has no doors, but you have a window
Article 200 of the Italian criminal procedure code and the EMFA protect a source from those hunting for it. Neither covers a document you upload yourself.
The price is the simple part.
Every feature in every band: the only thing that changes is how many seats you need. Annual or month to month, as you prefer.
One seat
€12.50per month
billed €149.99 a year · VAT excl.
One lawyer, one computer. You may install it on the laptop you take to a hearing too, as long as the same person uses it.
Two to four seats
€37.50per month
billed €449.99 a year · VAT excl.
A small firm. It is one price for the band, not per seat: four seats for the price of three, and three cost the same as two.
Five seats or more
Let’s talk
From here up we work the price out together, because how it is installed and who holds the licences changes too. Write to us and we will talk.
